Weight management means different things to different people. For most, it will mean weight loss, or at least controlling weight gain. But for a few others, putting a few pounds on, especially in the right places is what weight management means. Regardless of what "weight management" means to you, you will find resources and answers here. There's more to this than just the latest diet craze.

It boils down to this, as explained in the accompanying article by the webmaster. Weight control in it's simplest form is a matter of this formula: Weight at body = Calories in - (calories consumed + calories excreted). Calories in is only one variable. How they are consumed is a factor of many complex items including native body metabolism and induced metabolism. There's little one can do about native body metabolism, although some drugs attempt to alter it.  Another way to alter it is by factors such as exercise or relaxing, but even that is not a fixed value because body composition changes that number. Muscle used consumes a greater amount than does fat body makeup. Excretion is also a factor of many variables such as kidney function, etc. In short, there's too many variables for most of us to understand, and the more we play with diets or diet formulations all we really can know is we're doing a trial and error process and may be doing ourselves more harm than good. Even many family doctors don't understand all the variables and one should really consult a MD specialist if they have weight managment issues they seriously need or want to address.

Have you ever wondered why two people can apparently eat the same food; have the same life styles in terms of exercise, work, sleep, and all other factors.. and yet one is thin and the other "fat"?  If calories or food in was the only difference, wouldn't both people be about the same? Yet they are not. Why? We just explained this above. They metabolize at different rates. They store food at different rates. Analyze metabolism by body temperature. Analyze fecal material for BOD. (if you don't know what that means, ask someone you know who works in the sewage treatment field). In short, your body has a predispostion to maintaining a certain weight based on built in factors. Your calorie contol is only one small part, and if you  try to lose weight and cut back out of proportion to nutrients.. you are in big troulbe. In fact, more trouble than being heavy.  I'm not trying to justify being fat, and calories do have some factor.. but know what you are doing before cutting back.
